Materials Required

* Water
* Scissors
* Red food color(more colors can be also used)
* A plastic cup
* A white or light colored flower.

Method
|
- Fill the cup with water and add the red food coloring.
- Next cut end of the stalk of the flower slightly and stand the flower in water and observe what happens.

What is Learnt
|
Absorbing of food color led to change in color of flower.
Just as leaves absorb water from the atmosphere they suck water through their stems also.
|

Conclusion
|
The white flower slowly turns red. The red color of the food color is absorbed and you could see it in even some parts of the stalk of the flower.
If more than 1 color is used you would find petals in 2 different colors also.
