Make a Small Parachute
Materials Required
  • A big hand kerchief  or a square piece of cloth.
  • Thread.
  • A Small Stone.
What to do
  • Take 4 equal length of threads (the length should be slightly greater than the length of the hand kerchief).
  • Tie the 4 threads on the 4 corners of the hand kerchief.
  • Then join all the other corners of the thread and put a knot. Then on the knot end, tie the stone or any heavy object and tie it tightly. Take care that to tight it correctly, so that it will not fall down.
  • Then throw it upwards with full force.
  • Let your kid observe what happens. The hand kerchief or the cloth will spread open and will fall down like a parachute.
  • You can also try this by standing on top of a building and make the child watch it from the ground.
  • In the place of the stone, you can also replace a small doll which is slightly heavier. Then this experiment will have the fun of soldier using your parachute.

Be cautious when trying this. If the stone is not tied properly, then the stone may fall down.

What is learnt

  • Simple parachute mechanism is learnt.
  • Kids especially boys will love this.
