Water Magic - Surface Tension

Materials Required
  • A box of paper clips.
  • A glass
  • Water

How to do it

  • Fill the glass with water up to the brim of the glass.
  • Slowly immerse the paper clips one after another into the water.
  • Let the child observe what happens. The water does not spill out until a certain amount of pins is dipped into the water.
  • Let the child observe the water surface. It will look like a expanded surface on top.


This is due to the surface tension of the water which tries to pull molecules toward it.
