Kids Science Activities

Do smell and taste have inter relation
Materials Required
  • A small piece of peeled potato
  • A small piece of peeled apple

How to do it

  • Let the shapes of the potato and apple be same, so that it is not differentiated when the eyes are closed.
  • Now ask your kid to close the eyes.
  • Mix both potato and the apple and give it to your child.
  • Ask her to hold the nose and then taste the pieces.
  • Ask her, whether she could identity the pieces.
  • This experient can be done for the nursery or primary class kids also.

Explanation

Holding the nose while tasting makes it hard to identify the difference between the potato and the apple. Our nose and mouth are connected through the same airway , hence we taste and smell foods at the same time.
