Materials Required
  • A glass cup
  • Water
  • Ice Cube

How to do it

  • Pour water into the cup.
  • Put ice cube into the water.
  • Ask the kid to observe and tell whether the ice floats or sink in the water.
  • The ice will float in the water.

Explanation

When the water freezes , it expands and takes more space while forming the ice cube. Hence the volume is greater. So it floats in the water. The amount of water displaced by the ice is greater in weight than that of the ice. So the ice floats in water.
