Three Layer Float Experiment
Materials Required
  • Cooking Oil
  • Cork
  • Coin
  • Water
  • Grape
  • Honey
  • Tall transparent Bottle

How to do it

  • Fill one third of the bottle with honey.
  • Fill the next third with the cooking oil.
  • Fill the last third of the bottlw with water.
  • Wait for all three liquids to settle. Do not disturb the bottle.
  • Now ask your child to in the coin , then the grape and then the cork.
  • Ask the child to observe what happens.

Explanation

  • All three items coin, grape and cork land up on each of the three different fluids namely honey, oil and water.
  • Each liquid and item have different densities and stay in a separate layer according to its density. The most dense is at the bottom and the least dense is at the top.
  • Make a record of the position of the liquid and the objects.
